It’s no secret, a simple apple pie is my jam for Thanksgiving. Or any time of the year, let’s be honest.
But what do you do when you have a ton leftover after one of the best food holidays of the year?!
Sure you could eat it straight out of the pan with a fork, true fat kid style (honestly I do too). With a little leftover whipped cream or vanilla ice cream… oh yeah.

But what if you could combine all of that and have like an apple pie a la mode milkshake situation. Yeah, I’m going there.

How to Make Apple Pie Milkshake
This milkshake is perfect for any apple pie that you like or make, this one happens to use my Apple Pie with Crumb Topping, or a dutch apple pie recipe.
If you know how to make a milkshake, this apple pie milkshake recipe is super easy to follow. And even if you don’t know how to make a milkshake, it’s as easy at 1-2-3.
The basics of any milkshake are as follows:
- Milk
- Ice cream
- Flavoring (of any kind)

Depending on how thick or thin you like your milkshake, determines how much of ice cream and milk you add.
I love a good thick milkshake so I only add enough milk to my blender to get things moving.
And depending on how much of an apple pie flavor you like, determines how much apple pie you want to add to the blender. I love mine tasting like apple pie just punched me in the face… so I add a lot!
Now just for aesthetics, I like to dip my glass in some homemade caramel sauce just so it has that super extra fall touch. If you are a huge caramel fan, feel free to add the sauce to the milkshake as well for a caramel apple pie milkshake taste.

Be sure to watch this Facebook Live video I did on how to make a classic homemade caramel sauce.
If you are looking for a gluten-free option for this dessert, feel free to use my apple pie filling recipe and add that into the milkshake without the pie crust! Super easy.
I hope that you enjoy this recipe and that it uses up your leftover apple pie. If you especially loved this recipe, I would love to hear about it in the comments down below (along with a rating).

Leftover Apple Pie Milkshake
Although apple pie is quintessential to Thanksgiving, it’s possible that you have leftovers. Making an easy homemade apple pie milkshake is a fun and festive way to enjoy this holiday dessert in a whole new way!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 cups ice cream
- 2 slices apple pie
Caramel Sauce
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoon butter
- ½ cup cream
Instructions
Apple Pie Milkshake
- In a blender, place ice cream, milk, and apple pie slices.
- Blend on pulse function until well blended and pour into prepared glasses.
- Garnish with homemade caramel sauce.
Caramel Sauce
- In a small saucepot, place sugar and add enough water to wet the sugar to look like wet sand. Caramelize over medium heat until amber in color, do NOT stir sugar to avoid developing sugar crystals. You can swirl the pan to make sure the color distributes evenly.
- Once the sugar is dissolved and amber in color, add butter and cream and stir until saucy. Store in an air tight container in the fridge for 7 days.
Notes
I like to make this using my apple pie recipe that you can get here or you can feel free to use your own.
I love using vanilla ice cream in this milkshake and you can feel free to use my recipe or use another favorite ice cream to eat with apple pie.
